We're Hiring!

We're looking for a structural enzymologist to help decipher how viruses evolve resistance to antiviral drugs. More details here and apply here.

Prospective students:

We are happy to accept students from the BBSRC DTP programme for PhD projects. We're also happy to hear from potential applicants for Gates Cambridge MPhil or PhD studentships, Cambridge Trust Studentships or Commonwealth Scholarships. You can find details on additional sources of studentship funding on the Department of Pathology prospective students page.

Prospective postdocs:

We are always interested to hear from motivated postdocs who want to apply for fellowships (e.g. from EMBO, HFSP, the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 [Stephen had one of these!], the Royal Society or the Wellcome Trust) to join the lab.

Cambridge Science Festival - March 2014

Again this year we joined forces with Janet Deane's lab from the CIMR to teach people how to grow their own lysozyme crystals at the 2014 Cambridge Science Festival. Over 100 people grew beautiful looking crystals of hen egg white lysozyme and the whole lab enjoyed getting the opportunity to discuss our research with members of the public.

Christmas Cheer - December 2013

Cold weather and short days mean it's almost Christmas time. The lab celebrated in style, first with a lab Christmas lunch (together with our friends from Janet Deane's lab in the CIMR) and then with the Division of Virology Christmas lunch the very next day.

Scary Agar Plates - Halloween 2013

Halloween isn't usually a time for cleaning, but seeing how nasty some of the yeast plates had gotten a thorough clean-out of the cold room was definitely overdue...

Cambridge Science Festival - March 2013

Together with Janet Deane's lab from the CIMR we set up a "Grow your own crystal" stand at the 2013 Science Festival where we were crystallising lysozyme from chicken egg white. It was a roaring success: over 150 crystallisation experiments were set up by people ages 3 to 63 and (almost) everyone got crystals!
